 The new Act came into force on 1st March 2000.

What does the Data Protection Act have to do with CCTV?
Under the 1998 Act, from 24th October 2001, all commercial and public CCTV Systems are affected where they process personal data. Only domestic CCTV systems are exempt from the conditions of the Act.
How much does it cost to become compliant?
It depends to what extent you are not complying. Firstly you need to notify the Information Commissioner, which costs £35. Other requirements include displaying warning signs, logging all recordings and who changes tapes and when, also you need to keep recordings and recording equipment secure.
Can I not do this myself, why do I need Stroud Alarms?

What happens if I do not take the steps to comply?
You are legally obliged to comply and the penalty for non-compliance is a £5,000 fine initially, and an additional unlimited fine for a repeat offence.
